The Artisan Gallery opened in 1984 - so we're now 25 years young - and very proud to still be growing and learning. We moved to our present, much larger, location at 162 Main St., Northampton in 2004 and we were able to greatly expand the offerings we can now present.
We now showcase more designers and craftspeople - particularly from the pioneer valley and the hills that enclose it. This includes the fine work of printmakers, embellished t-shirt designers, metal artists, sculptors, and many others including ceramic artists creating fine, functional pottery.
Another area that has now received the attention it deserves is clothing and accessories. We have focused on imaginative clothing that is shapely with an easy fit. The two styles we focus on might best be described as sophisticated/bohemian and clean/contemporary. Our customers tell us they receive the most compliments and get the most wear from the clothing they discover here. We are very proud of that.
One of the great compliments we recently received was from a long-time resident who likened the Artisan Gallery to the sadly missed McCallums Department Srore. And it does greatly please us when a customer, invited to a special wedding, finds her dress, accessories, gift and card here. The gift, of course leaves the Gallery beautifully boxed and ribboned. And it's all topped off with the most helpful, friendly service you'll find anywhere.
